Have You Saluted the Sun Today?

A wonderful way to start the day is with yoga and a "salute to the sun".

This pose is great for warming up your body, as well as being, as with most yoga poses, a great toning exercise, a pose that energizes your body and mind and is an excellent method of breathing control.

You can do the 'salute to the sun" a few times a day. First thing in the morning it get's your blood pumping, your muscles warmed up and your joints moving. Later on, even two or three more times. the pose can be done as an energizer and stress reliever

Try this -

* Stand with your feet together and palms together in front of the chest. Push your feet into the floor and stretch your necks upwards, lengthening your body as you exhale.

* Breathe in deeply as you raise your arms high, keeping your hands together and bend backwards from the waist.

* Exhale slowly as you bend forwards, placing your hands flat on the floor at the sides of your feet . (Bend your knees if you need to).

* While inhaling, stretch your left leg backwards so it rests on the knee and toes. While doing this bend the right knee and raise your head so you are looking up.

* Holding your breath, bring your right foot backwards besides your left foot. Your body should now make a straight line, just like a push up position, supported on your hands and toes.

* begin lowering your knees, chest and your forehead to the floor, exhaling as you do this. Try to keep your stomach and pelvis off the ground.

* As you are breathing in raise your upper body by straitening your arms and leave your legs on the ground. Look up at the ceiling.

* Exhale and curl your toes under and then push your butt upwards and back. press your heels and head down towards the floor.

The last four steps are the reverse of what you were doing in steps 3 - 6

* While inhaling, bring your left foot forward beneath your chest. Your right leg should be extended backwards with the knee resting on the floor.

* Breathe out as you bring your right leg alongside the left. Raise your right leg alongside the left. Raise your buttocks placing your face close to your legs.

* Breathe in as you straighten upward, extend your arms up, hands together then arch yourself backwards.

* Return to your standing position and exhale. Repeat the sequence leading with your right leg so the stretching action is balanced on both sides of the body.

The first few times it will likely be confusing, but after a while this pose will be second nature to you and you'll be able to included in you schedule.

How To Avoid The Supplement Syndrome

If you were to build the house of Spokane fitness nutrition, exercise, and motivation would make up the foundation; they would also make up the framing, the walls, the roof and pretty much the whole house. supplements would then maybe be the satellite dish, or perhaps the little gnomes in your garden - not real worthwhile without the house there.

So why would you treat supplements as a precursor to weight loss and write off nutrition and exercise as expendable activities. Are you one of these serial supplement users? Do you subscribe to the abc product plan or the xyz metabolism makeover? If that's you - Stop! Please!

There are new diet pills and gimmicks hot off the press every month, just waiting for their prey the desperate dieter wishing for that next breakthrough product. Don't be that victim.

The confusion from the diet and weight loss industries mixed with a dose of media muddle would have you believe that supplements are indeed needed for weight loss, and it's your fault if these worthwhile products don't work for you.

Many of these hocus-pocus-like solutions tout their creams, potions, wonder pills or gadgets as a no-effort and no-exercise-required approach to Spokane fitness the fat is going to just melt off.

Let's get this straight; fat does not melt off - unless you use a strategy involving a blowtorch. But I don't recommend that. Even the manufacturers stress that their products should be used along with proper nutrition and exercise.

If you ever need some good entertainment watch a late night infomercial for a diet product. Look at the before and after pictures they show. If you look carefully you'll often see in real small print the size of a toenail clipping - results achieved along with proper diet and exercise.

Wow! That is a real breakthrough product. Ever heard of the placebo effect? Often these products are just a good excuse to eat right and exercise which then produces the desired effect of weight loss.

Yes, there are a few helpful supplements out there. But again, they are not needed. Even the useful supplements can be used as a crutch, delaying the onset of proper nutrition and exercise.

What you eat and how much physical activity you get will make up 95% or more of the results you achieve. So why would you try to maximize the 5% when you can get the most effect from just working out and eating right.

And when you do include supplements in your diet, be sure they are legitimate and proven products with research to support their claims.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) publishes an excellent report on how to avoid supplement scams it's called The Red Flag Report - with a fitting subtitle, I lost $350 in two weeks. Ask me how! It gives a list of the top 7 red flags to watch out for when buying diet products and exercise equipment. Here they are:

A supplement or product is too good to be true if it says the product will:
1. Cause weight loss of two pounds or more a week for a month or more without dieting or exercise
2. Cause substantial weight loss no matter what or how much the consumer eats
3. Cause permanent weight loss (even when the consumer stops using product)
4. Block the absorption of fat or calories to enable consumers to lose substantial weight
5. Safely enable consumers to lose more than three pounds per week for more than four weeks 6. Cause substantial weight loss for all users
7. Cause substantial weight loss by wearing it on the body or rubbing it into the skin

If you get just one thing out of this article I would really be pleased if you realize that you don't need any supplements to be successful with weight loss. You are empowered, you have the capability, you have all you need to do this, without any gimmicks.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Long Live The Legend

Sonic the hedgehog truely is a legendary video game icon. He smashed his way onto the gaming scene back in 1991 when SEGA first brought you the super fast, blue blur character.

Known for his rebellious attitude and signature speed, Sonic has made a name for himself in the gaming world and has no plans of fading away anytime soon.

Not only can you find Sonic games on the original SEGA console, you can find Sonic games on next generation consoles including the Wii, ps3, PSP and Xbox 360.

Sonic and the secret Rings was released for the Wii console on February 20, 2007. Sonic brought his trademark speed and rebellious attitude to the Wii in his first solo adventure since he was first introduced, back in 1991. The gameplay is simple, but challenging and sonic soars through the game at top speeds!

Sonic the hedgehog is the title for the xbox 360 and ps3 consoles. This video game was created in order to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic the hedgehog franchise. It was released November 14, 2006 for the xbox 360 and January 30, 2007 for the xbox 360.

Sonic Rivals was released November 24, 2006 for the PSP handheld console. Custom built for the Playstation portable, Sonic Rivals is a unique head-to-head racing experience!

While these newer games are all the rage, you can also find great sonic games on other consoles as well, including the ps2, gamecube, xbox, Gameboy Advance and nintendo DS. The SEGA mascot brings fun and excitement to all the video games and drags some friends along for the fun. Some friends included are Miles Tails Prower, Amy Rose hedgehog, Shadow the hedgehog, Knuckles Echidna and Cream the Rabbit. And, of course, Sonic's arch enemy, Dr. Eggman, shoves his way into games as well.

Oh, but wait! The fun does'nt stop there. Die hard Sonic the hedgehog fans have created fun and exciting Sonic flash Games for gamers to play online. They are browser based games that are creative, fun and addicting. Yes, you may find yourself playing these games for hours on end! One of my favorite Sonic online Games is ultimate flash Sonic. It's an amazing remake of the classic SEGA Genesis game, Sonic the hedgehog.
